Holiday apartment in Arsiero: Mountains, valleys and forts

The area around Arsiero is predominantly mountainous, with deep valleys covered in dense vegetation. Numerous walks and hikes are possible both on the valley floor and in the surrounding mountains. The transition between the valley floor and the mountain landscape gives the routes two different settings for a stay in Arsiero. This creates a destination whose landscape allows for a variety of day plans: sometimes a relaxed outing in the valley is the focus, and sometimes the mountains.

Walking Trails and Historic Routes

The Pista ciclopedonale ex ferrovia is a walking and cycling path suitable for everyone. The Strada degli Alpini, marked as route 540, offers a different experience. This route was created in 1909 by Alpini troops on the western slope of Monte Cimone and was built in the period leading up to the First World War. For your orientation, the rule on the Strada dell’Aralta is also important: unauthorised motor vehicles are not allowed to use it.

Church and Military Cemetery

The Church of San Michele Arcangelo was built within the walls of Arsiero Castle; its history dates back to the 13th century. The church also preserves the altarpiece “L’apparizione di San Michele Arcangelo” by Albano Tomaselli. Arsiero’s military cemetery is located on elevated ground and is connected to the municipal cemetery by a broad marble staircase. Its monumental entrance has three arches crowned by slender pinnacles. Beneath the monument in the military cemetery lie the remains of 403 unknown Italian soldiers and 726 unknown Austrian soldiers.

Forts Between Mountain Views and the Past

Forte Campomolon was built from 1912 onwards, shortly before the First World War. The fort is a viewpoint overlooking Tonezza, the Altipiani, Vigolana, Valdastico, the Posina Valley and the plain. At Forte Campomolon, the fort’s construction history combines with views of Tonezza, the Altipiani, Vigolana, Valdastico, the Posina Valley and the plain. Forte Casa Ratti also combines a striking high-altitude location with a clear military function: it was built between 1906 and 1908 as a fortified battery at an altitude of 350 metres and was intended to control movements from the upper Val d’Astico. Forte Casa Ratti was blown up on 25 June and reduced to ruins.
