When choosing your location, it is worth considering the different ways to experience the area. The Ciclovia del Trasimeno runs through the Tuoro sul Trasimeno area; the Borghetto–Tuoro sul Trasimeno section ends at the car park at Punta Navaccia. Trekking trail 28 reaches Cima di Tuoro or Gosparini and passes through wooded slopes, across a scenic terrace and through pastureland with views of Lake Trasimeno.

Several themed trails also open up the surrounding area. The Vernazzano–Tuoro circular route connects the various settlements of Vernazzano and Tuoro sul Trasimeno and passes the ruins of the old castle with its Leaning Tower. The Percorso della Battaglia del Trasimeno crosses the valley of Tuoro sul Trasimeno and touches all the places associated with the battle. One stage of the Via del Trasimeno reaches Punta Navaccia; from there, hikers board a boat to continue to Isola Maggiore. The Museo del Merletto on Isola Maggiore can be reached by ferry from the Pontile di Tuoro sul Trasimeno.

Leaning Tower and historic traces

The Torre pendente di Vernazzano is part of the ruins of the old castle of Vernazzano. The tower has an inclination of 13 degrees and is supported by tie rods. From the Vernazzano district, it can be reached via a path through the woods that takes approximately 20 minutes; Vernazzano is about 5 km from the centre. The Pieve dei Confini is an early Romanesque building from the 11th century that has largely been preserved despite extensive later alterations. Historically, it served travellers as a landmark and as a safe place to stay or stop.

The apse of Santa Maria Maddalena contains a fresco from 1949 by the Futurist painter Gerardo Dottori. The Palazzo del Capra is also known as Palazzo di Nardo and stands in the town of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, just outside the town centre in the direction of Sanguineto. According to local tradition, it was built over the mausoleum of the consul Gaius Flaminius. The palazzo also houses an important fresco by the painter Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino.

Museums and special places on Lake Trasimeno

The Museo su Annibale e la Battaglia del Trasimeno explores the Punic Wars, the Battle of Lake Trasimeno and the area where the events took place. It considers these subjects from historical, historiographical, iconographic and anthropological perspectives. The battle is presented interactively through videos, panels, infographics, multimedia stations and 4D video reports. The Museo di Annibale al Trasimeno – Centro di documentazione is located at Piazza Garibaldi 7 in the historic centre of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. The Percorso della Battaglia del Trasimeno officially begins at Piazza Garibaldi, where this museum is located.

Campo del Sole forms a large spiral of 27 column sculptures leading to a central slab with a sun symbol. The column sculptures are made of local grey sandstone (pietra serena) and are approximately 4.5 metres high. Ustrina found in the Tuoro area are interpreted by some scientists as burial structures that may have been used to cremate the many fallen soldiers after the battle.

At Punta Navaccia, Lido di Tuoro has a beach and tourist facilities. Depending on your preferred daily rhythm, you can therefore focus on historic trails, museum visits, hikes, cycling tours or access to the lake when choosing your holiday apartment.

For further regional orientation, you can also discover Ospedalicchio, Corlo I, Colpalombo, Nocera Umbra, Piedicolle, Castelluccio, Uppello and Ponte Centesimo.
