A distinctive detail of the castle complex is the Porta Fuje. It is one of Doglio’s gates and bears the coat of arms of the eagle of Todi. Within Doglio Castle, the Church of San Salvatore was built at the beginning of the 20th century. For travellers interested in culture, this brings together a medieval castle village, the eagle emblem of Todi and a religious building with a precisely defined date of origin. The historic traces are found not only in the fortifications but also in the religious buildings of the historic village. Within the castle, Porta Fuje and San Salvatore represent two specific historical elements: a gate bearing the coat of arms of the eagle of Todi and a church dating from the early 20th century.

Doglio’s historical diversity also includes the Abbey of Santa Maria in Monte, which is located in Doglio, and the remains of the ancient castle. These include circular defensive walls. The Oratory of Santa Maria alle Rotelle dates from the 17th century. The range of cultural and historical points of interest therefore extends from remnants of the fortifications to religious buildings from different periods. The remains of the ancient castle and the oratory add further historic buildings to the abbey.

Natural surroundings and routes around Doglio

A cold sulphur spring called Leccolatoio or Colatoio is located in the natural area around Doglio. The historic village of Doglio lies in an area subject to environmental, landscape and heritage protection under Italian Legislative Decree No. 42/04. The protection framework explicitly covers the environment, landscape and monuments as joint areas of protection. This legal aspect broadens the historic village’s connection with nature. The spring is known by both names, Leccolatoio and Colatoio.

Two different routes also run around Doglio. One route of the Parco Fluviale del Tevere leads from Doglio to Monte Castello di Vibio. The Sentiero del Furioso follows an old municipal road to the Doglio hamlet. The different routes can be considered separately when planning a day out, as their destination and road section are each clearly defined. Excursions from Doglio therefore offer specific destination and route details relating to Monte Castello di Vibio and the Doglio hamlet respectively.

Olive oil, wine and a cycling tour

The programme of Pane e D'Oglio included guided tastings of new olive oil and local wines. It also included a cycling tour called L'anello D'Oglio. The tastings were guided, while L'anello D'Oglio was included as a separate cycling tour in the programme.
