Lornano combines wine traditions, historic buildings and paths through the countryside to create a diverse destination. Fattoria Lornano has been producing Chianti Classico since 1904. The estate covers 180 hectares, where vines, olive trees and grain are cultivated. Its vineyards produce Chianti Classico, Chianti Colli Senesi, Rosso Toscano IGT and Vin Santo Chianti Classico. Fattoria Lornano also produces extra virgin olive oil.

The area’s architectural history also gives it a distinctive character. Fattoria Lornano was originally built in the 15th century, while the present structure dates from the second half of the 18th century. The old church of Lornano has been documented since the 9th century. At the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, the roof, load-bearing walls, façades and foundations were consolidated and restored. Lornano was also an old post station of the Republic of Siena.

Wine tastings and Tuscan cuisine

Several experiences bring you directly into contact with the area’s culinary traditions. “A Taste of Lornano” includes a guided tour of the historic cellars dating from the 15th century, a tasting of three Lornano wines and a tasting of extra virgin olive oil. The “Tuscan cooking class & tasting” teaches you how to prepare tagliatelle, bruschetta with tomatoes and tiramisu. It also includes a visit to the historic cellars and a lunch paired with four wines from Lornano’s production.

“Light Lunch at the Winery” combines a cellar visit with a typical light Tuscan lunch. Possible starters include ham, salami, pecorino and bruschetta; pasta or lasagne are available as the first course. Vinsanto and cantucci make up the dessert course. Vineyards and trails around Lornano

The “Into the vineyards” experience includes a walk through the vineyards of Lornano, focusing on the terroir of Chianti Classico. The tasting includes extra virgin olive oil, pecorino, ham, salami and bruschetta. The walk is available by reservation only and is not offered during the winter season.

For active days, there is Trail 336 – Il Castello di Rencine. It begins in Lornano and follows an ancient road to Castello di Rencine. The route indicates travelling to Lornano by car or to Badesse by train; Lornano is 2 km from Badesse railway station. The Anello di Lornano circular route is moderately difficult and includes some short but fairly demanding climbs.
