Trails run along the Farma and Solaia; near Pozzolungo, geological features shape the nature reserve. The regional surroundings of Lama also include castles, a chapel and a sculpture park.

Trails between the Farma, Solaia and Petriolo

The RSMF3 Solaia Petriolo route is 6.60 kilometres long and runs from Iesa to Petriolo along the Sienese slope. There are several opportunities to swim along the way; at the end are the free thermal pools of Petriolo and a bathing spot in the Farma. The RSMF3 links trails and bathing spots, while the RSMF2 follows fords across the Farma and the trail up to the Belagaio Reserve. For planning the day, swimming can take place along the way or only at Petriolo and the Farma, depending on the day's rhythm.

On the RSMF2 Contra Vignacci route, there are three possible fords across the Farma; it then leads uphill to the Belagaio State Nature Reserve.

Nature and distinctive landscapes near Lama

The Fosso di Solaia rises from springs between Cerbaia and Lama. A trail to Pozzolungo leads from Lama towards Solaia along the road to Quarciglioni and then continues via a footpath. The alternation of road and footpath characterises the route to Pozzolungo. For the RSMF1 Contra Pozzolungo route, there is a car park at the Antica Fonte between Lama and Contra. The car park at the Antica Fonte provides a clear landmark for the section between Lama and Contra.

Pozzolungo is part of the Farma Nature Reserve. It is home to layered rock formations from the Carboniferous period, which formed 320 million years ago and rise steeply above a stream. The mountains Poggio la Biffa, Poggio del Casino, Monte Alto and Poggio Cerrete are also located around Lama.

Chapel, sculpture park and castles

In the village of Lama, the small Cappella di Lama stands at Piazzale del Monumento, at a road junction. In Iesa, in the municipality of Monticiano, lies the Parco di sculture di Kurt Laurenz Metzler. It was started in 1995 by Swiss artist Kurt Laurenz Metzler and comprises more than fifty works.

The two cultural attractions are in different locations: the chapel stands in Lama, while the park is in Iesa in the municipality of Monticiano. In this way, a small chapel is combined with a sculpture park comprising more than fifty works.
