Pieve Vecchia was formerly also known as Pievaccia di Colle Pinzato or Pincioli. The remains of the former Pieve di Scotriano are located at the foot of Colle Pinzuti. By the 15th century, the Pieve di Scotriano was already in ruins, and the area had become rural.

At the former site of the Pieve Vecchia di Scotriano, Antonio Chiocchini di Livorno built a villa with an adjoining oratory toward the end of the 18th century. The Pieve di Scotriano was abolished in 1575; its assets were transferred to the seminary of the Primaziale of Pisa. The area of the Pieve di S. Giovanni Battista and S. Maria in Scotriano included eight branch churches in addition to the main church. The Pieve di S. Giovanni a Scutriano was rebuilt by Antonio Chiocchini in 1767.
