Holiday apartment in Magliano: mountain village, trails and history

Magliano is a mountain village with narrow cobbled lanes, closely spaced houses and sandstone portals. The village is first documented in a will dating from 793. In the Middle Ages, a fortress stood in the upper part of Magliano. The compact village layout thus combines its historic character with the memory of its medieval fortifications.

Between Monte Tea and the nature parks

Magliano lies at the foot of Monte Tea, between the sources of the Aulella and Serchio di Soraggio rivers. The municipality of Sillano Giuncugnano extends between the Parco Nazionale dell’Appennino Tosco-Emiliano and the Parco dell’Orecchiella. The area invites visitors to go hiking and trekking in nature. A holiday apartment in Magliano can therefore be combined with days spent among mountain and river landscapes and the two nature parks.

Circular trails with different starting points

In 2025, PasseggianMangiando reached its fifth edition. The 2025 route was a circular trail of approximately 17 kilometres. PasseggianMangiando has since reached its sixth edition. The start and finish of the 2025 route were in Magliano.

The 2026 hike was a circular trail of approximately 13 kilometres. The start and finish were at the Colonia di Magliano. This route included six refreshment points and also led, among other places, to the Oratorio della Madonna di Loreto. The approximately 17 kilometres of the 2025 route and the roughly 13 kilometres of the 2026 route represent different distances for a day’s outing. The six refreshment points on the 2026 hike can be included as planned breaks during the hiking day.

Both the 2025 PasseggianMangiando route and the Monte Tondo route pass the Mulino di Magliano. The Mulino di Magliano is therefore a point shared by both routes. The former mill was recently converted into a residential building. On the Argegna e Tea route, a descent to the left leads to Magliano in about ten minutes.

Chiesa di Sant’Andrea: art and religious history

The Chiesa di Sant'Andrea Apostolo is attributed to the 12th century and has historical and religious significance as a sacred site. Its 1739 vault painting was created by Giuseppe Morelli from Gragnola. It depicts the martyrdom of Saint Andrew. The church also preserves a 14th-century wooden altarpiece and several relics of saints. The works of art preserved in the church span the period from the 14th-century wooden altarpiece to the 1739 vault painting. The parish church of Sant’Andrea in Magliano was reopened for services after the damage caused by the earthquake of 21 June 2013.

Medieval traces and remembrance

The Monumento ai Caduti di Magliano commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars, as well as the civilian victims of the Second World War.
