Villa Le Pianore and archaeological traces

The Villa Borbone delle Pianore complex comprises three buildings from different periods. Zita of Bourbon was born at Villa Le Pianore on 9 May 1892; she later became the last empress of Austria. In addition to the three buildings, visitors interested in culture will find the story of Zita of Bourbon’s birth here.

The settlement of Acquarella in the Località Capezzano Pianore was inhabited several times from late Archaic Etruria in the 6th century BC, throughout the Roman era and into the Early Middle Ages in the 6th and 7th centuries. The excavations identified several rooms of a Roman farm used to produce olive oil. The Civico Museo Archeologico di Camaiore displays finds from the ancient Roman villa on Via Acquarella in Capezzano Pianore.

The parish church of Capezzano Pianore also has a specific testimony: a monumental Agati-Tronci organ dating from 1895. The town’s church history is also represented by the monumental Agati-Tronci organ dating from 1895.

Via Francigena and local trails in Capezzano Pianore

Section 1 of the Via Francigena in Camaiore reaches Villa Le Pianore via Via di San Michele. The Via Francigena runs not far from the Etruscan-Roman archaeological site of Acquarella.

The Camaiore Antiqua circular hiking trail “Capezzano – Santa Lucia” begins at Villa Borbone delle Pianore and follows Via della Stretta. The Sentiero dell’Acquarella leads from Villa Cavanis in Capezzano to the forecourt of the Church of Santa Lucia. The two trails already differ in their starting points: the circular trail begins at Villa Borbone delle Pianore, while the Sentiero dell’Acquarella begins at Villa Cavanis.

There is a dedicated sidewalk along the Sarzanese. The central points where the route can be walked include the centre of Capezzano Pianore, the Acquarella area and Villa Le Pianore. For pedestrian orientation, the centre of Capezzano Pianore, the Acquarella area and Villa Le Pianore are three specific points.

Festivals and traditions in Capezzano Pianore

The Epiphany celebrations in Capezzano Pianore included the 41st Rassegna delle Befane, organised by the Misericordia di Capezzano Pianore. The programme of the 2026 Rassegna delle Befane included a competition for the best Befanino and a traditional tombola at Parco Baleno. On 5 January 2026, the event “Aspettando la Befana 2026” on Via Italica, featuring an evening parade, live music and entertainment by folk groups, was part of the celebrations. The celebrations also differ geographically: Parco Baleno is part of the Rassegna programme, while Via Italica is the location of the event on 5 January 2026.
