Tatti combines a local history documented since the 9th century with churches, castle traces and a communal woodland. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home will find a travel experience here away from interchangeable sights: the focus is on historical details, paths through the woods and a guided excursion programme. For families and other travellers, it is worth deciding in advance whether culture, nature or a combination of the two should be the main focus of their days.

Churches and Castle Traces in the Village

The Church of San Sebastiano still displays clearly recognisable medieval features. At the same time, it was renovated in the 18th century. Different historical periods therefore stand side by side in this building. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta dates from the 13th century and was completely rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. Both churches therefore offer different points of interest for anyone interested in the development of a place and its religious architectural history.

Tatti’s castle also tells of changing rulers. It was acquired by the Aldobrandeschi in the 13th century and ceded to the Pannocchieschi in 1267. An imposing stone keep, the Cassero, stands at the highest point of the hill and extends around an inner courtyard. Part of the wall circuit is still recognisable, particularly on the southern side. A round-arched gate has also been preserved there, topped by three rounded stones. Those who enjoy exploring historical places through individual architectural details can connect several such traces in Tatti without reducing the history to a single date.

Selva di Tatti and Guided Excursions

The Selva di Tatti is also part of the area’s distinctive history. This communal woodland legally belongs to the entire village and is divided into three named forest districts: Bandita La Selva, Bandita di Mezzo and Bandita del Pian di Tatti. The names give the woodland a clearly structured local identity and complement the historical impressions of the village centre with a landscape theme.

The guided excursion programme includes routes through woods, along old paths and through the villages of Prata, Niccioleta and Tatti. One route is entitled “Il borgo di Tatti, tra fontanili e mulini”. Anyone wishing to plan a holiday day not only around sightseeing but also around an accompanied walking route can take this focus into account when planning their trip. Registration at least 48 hours in advance is required for the guided walk involving Tatti. The guided excursions in the programme, which includes Tatti, are designed for groups of 2 to 20 participants.

Which Accommodation Suits Your Travel Plans

When looking for accommodation in Tatti, you should therefore first decide how you want to spend your days. Those interested in culture can focus on the churches, castle and wall circuit; those who prefer the landscape aspect can orient themselves towards the Selva di Tatti and the guided paths. For a trip with children, it may be helpful to consider historical discoveries and a planned hike as separate activities for different days.
