Ponte Rotto: Holiday Apartment, Culture and Trails

Those exploring Ponte Rotto will encounter sacred art, Etruscan and Roman archaeology, gardens in the surrounding area, walking and circular trails, as well as a cycling route with limited completion status. The mountains Monte Calvarino and Monte Querciabella lie in the wider regional area.

Sacred Art and Archaeological Traces in Ponterotto

The Cappellina del Ponterotto is also known as Madonna dell'acqua and contains frescoes from the Florentine school dating from the second half of the 16th century. In Ponterotto, in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a late Hellenistic Etruscan building from the 2nd century BC was discovered. The archaeological area of Ponterotto also preserves the remains of the economic area of a Roman villa, with rooms for productive activities.

Palaces, Museums and Gardens in the Surrounding Area

The ancient site of Da Bobo All'acciaiolo, Palazzo Pitti, the Museo degli Argenti and the Galleria D'Arte Moderna are located in the surroundings of Ponte Rotto. The Giardino Corsi and Giardino Torrigiani gardens are also nearby. The garden locations provide a different focus from the palace and museums, but remain within the same surrounding area of Ponte Rotto.

Mountains in the Wider Regional Area

Monte Calvarino lies in the wider regional area of Ponte Rotto. Monte Querciabella is also located within this wider regional area. Those planning beyond the immediate surroundings can include both mountains as a regional landscape theme. Their spatial relationship is therefore broader than that of the gardens, museums, palace and ancient site in the surrounding area.

Anello di Calzaiolo Circular Trail: Start, Route and Ascent

The Anello di Calzaiolo circular trail starts at the Ponterotto car park and follows the Pesa path to Calzaiolo. It takes two hours, is 9 kilometres long and has 340 metres of ascent. For day planning, time, distance and ascent are therefore equally part of the route profile. The combination of starting point, duration, length and ascent makes the trail easy to plan within a clearly defined time block.

Lungo il fiume Pesa Walking Trail: Time and Distance

The Lungo il fiume Pesa walking trail takes four hours, is 15 kilometres long and has 100 metres of ascent. Compared with the circular trail, this walking trail is longer and has less ascent. The greater distance and duration are offset by a lower ascent, marking a different tour plan.

Cycling and Travelling via San Casciano

The Ciclabile della Pesa is not yet fully completed, but some sections are accessible by bicycle. For travel planning, the cycling connection can be combined with the approach route: Ponte Rotto can be reached from San Casciano in Val di Pesa via Via Borromeo (SP93); from there, Cerbaia provides access to the Ciclabile della Pesa.
