Cavallina offers a special perspective on history, landscapes and regional discoveries.

Holiday apartment in Cavallina and historical themes

The Archivio Storico Preunitario of the municipality of Barberino di Mugello is located at Via del Torracchione 4 in Cavallina.

The archive, established before the unification of Italy, comprises 2,380 archival units dating from 1562 to 1903. Every year, the municipality's Department of Culture and Sport enables the archive's materials to be consulted for study and research purposes. The collection thus spans more than three centuries and extends into the early 20th century. For culturally interested travellers, this provides a clear historical focus that differs from purely landscape-based experiences.

Villa Torre Palagio is located at Via del Torracchione 8 in Cavallina. From 1457 to 1466, the villa was a meeting place for writers and learned humanists, including Luigi Pulci, Lorenzo il Magnifico, Mariotto Davanzati and Bernardo Gianbullari. The love songs and poems La Nencia da Barberino and La Beca da Dicomano were composed at Villa Torre Palagio. Both historic addresses are on Via del Torracchione: the archive is at number 4 and the villa at number 8.

Lake, park and elevation

The park of Villa Torre Palagio was redesigned in 1800 by the French architect Cambray-Digny. The villa stands on a peninsula and is completely surrounded by Lago di Bilancino. A distinctive terraced staircase in the park leads to the lower park level beside the water. From there, Lago di Bilancino can be seen. The park design, waterfront setting and architecture therefore create a strong landscape accent. The villa and its park thus have a direct connection with the waterscape of Lago di Bilancino.

The Mugello mediceo route also begins in Cavallina at an elevation of 260 metres. The elevation of 260 metres provides hikers with a specific starting point for planning their day. This makes the location interesting for travel planning that combines historical sightseeing with a more active focus. For those interested in hiking, the start in Cavallina provides a specific point of reference for planning the day. The start of the route can be noted as a separate hiking section when planning the day.
