Woodland areas and the Camminata alla Croce di Lucignano

Tenuta La Selva in Croce di Lucignano offers woodland areas that you can explore. In 2022, the Camminata alla Croce di Lucignano was a walk of approximately 7 km held in connection with the Festa della Madonna della Croce. At approximately 7 km, the walk offers a manageable framework for planning the day.

The Camminata alla Croce also included a Nordic walking demonstration with an instructor.

Festa Popolare, historical customs and regional cuisine

La Croce di Lucignano hosted the 41st edition of the Festa Popolare alla Croce. As part of this Festa Popolare, the Festa Contadina in Notturna included a re-enactment of threshing with songs and historical costumes. The historical re-enactment thus connects the festival evening with a specific agricultural custom.

At the 41st Festa Popolare alla Croce, dinners featuring duck in porchetta, pizza and other specialities were offered. At the Gran Prix of the Festa Popolare in Croce di Lucignano, participants received a voucher for a pici dish as their participation prize, which could be redeemed within the Festa Popolare.

Wine tasting and cycling tour at Tenuta Il Sosso

At Tenuta Il Sosso in Località Selve, Croce di Lucignano, a visit combines a guided tour of the winery and cellar with a tasting of five selected wines.

The tasting combines these five wines with bruschetta made with the estate's own extra virgin olive oil, local cured meats and artisanally produced cheeses. The Valdichiana 1 cycling tour also passes Soc. Agr. Il Sosso in Località Le Selve, Croce di Lucignano, one of the wineries located along the route. For planning the day, the winery visit can therefore be combined with a specific connection to the cycling tour.

Cycling between a flat circuit and a climb

The Gran Prix of the Festa Popolare in Croce di Lucignano included a competition on a flat, traffic-free road circuit measuring 1,000 m, which was completed three times.

The Memorial Nerdi cycling race differs from this: it was held in Croce di Lucignano on a challenging 18 km circuit, which was completed four times and ended in the Tuscan town after a 1 km climb.

This results in two different cycling formats for planning the day: the Gran Prix is characterised by three short laps on a flat, closed-off course, while the Memorial features four laps over 18 km and the additional 1 km climb. The course length, number of laps and climb each create their own focus.
