Stava offers several clearly distinct points of interest for planning your trip: the Chiesetta della Palanca, paths along the Rio Stava, documentation on the valley’s past and active experiences.

Remembrance and history in Stava

The Chiesetta della Palanca contains a crystal plaque bearing the names of the 268 victims of the Stava disaster. The plaque was blessed on the occasion of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Stava on 17 July 1988. The permanent exhibition “La Valle di Stava nelle attività passate” is located in the same building as the Centro di documentazione di Stava. The Centro di documentazione di Stava displays items related to mining activity in Prestavel.

Paths along the Rio Stava

The nature section of the Sentiero Stava 1985 offers insights into forest life and the centuries-old relationship between people and the forest and mountain environment. “Dove Stava una valle” offers a different trail perspective: the 3.5-kilometre path leads from Tesero along the Rio Stava, crosses it at three points via footbridges and ends at the Centro Stava 1985 after a short detour to the Chiesetta della Palanca.

Starting points and circular routes

The Sentiero Stava 1985 can be started in Stava or at the signposted car park. The car park is located 800 metres after the Pampeago–Lavazè turn-off, on the left along the road to Pampeago, immediately above the bridge over the Rio Stava. The Chiesetta della Palanca can be reached on foot from the Centro Stava 1985 in about 15 minutes; there are two car parks for cars nearby.

For a circular tour, “Dove Stava una valle” can be extended back to Tesero via Via dei pianeti and the Osservatorio di Fiemme. Together with the subsequent path to the sports field, this route forms a circuit of around 8 kilometres. This allows you to choose between a single trail section and a longer combination.

Depending on the route selected, the Sentiero Stava 1985 offers several trails lasting from about 1 hour 15 minutes to 4 hours. Stava can be reached from Tesero along the approximately 3-kilometre “Dove Stava una valle” path beside the Rio Stava on an easy hike or by mountain bike. The different details on distance and duration help you choose a suitable schedule for the day.
