Discover Rovereto: Art, Nature and History
Rovereto combines nature, cycling paths, art and urban history to create a destination offering a wide range of experiences. On Saturday afternoons, the Planetarium of the Museo offers fulldome projections in an immersive dome cinema. This allows you to begin your stay with a special experience combining science, culture and shared discovery.
Nature and Active Pursuits in the Bosco della Città
The Bosco della Città includes the Percorso Natura, an educational trail with information panels about the area's flora, fauna and geology. The Percorso Ciclopedonale in the Bosco della Città is mostly level and offers panoramic views across the Vallagarina and the Monti Lessini. Rovereto also offers cyclists a network of four main routes: pista Longa, pista del Leno, pista della Roggia and pista del Lavoro. Other paths run through the city districts; dedicated signs and maps along the routes help with orientation.
History with Many Faces
The Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra – MITAG is housed in the Castello di Rovereto. Its permanent exhibition preserves artifacts and historical finds from the First World War and is considered one of Italy's most important museums about this war. The Torrione Marino of the Castello di Rovereto also displays a collection of early modern weapons from the 16th to the 18th century. The Campana dei Caduti adds another commemorative dimension: it was cast from the bronze of cannons belonging to the nations involved in the First World War, is regarded as the world's largest bell that can be rung with a full peal, and sounds one hundred times every evening at sunset.
Art between Modernism and Futurism
The Mart in Rovereto presents major temporary exhibitions and has a collection of around 20,000 works spanning more than 150 years of art history. It includes major 20th-century art movements, including Futurism, Novecento, Metaphysical art, abstraction, Arte Povera and conceptual art. The Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero displays paintings, tapestries, mosaics, drawings, design objects, collages, posters, event posters and furniture by Fortunato Depero. It is Italy's only futurist museum.
Knowledge, Urban History and Natural Science
The Museo di Scienze e Archeologia explores archaeology, zoology, botany, astronomy, earth sciences and robotics through permanent collections and temporary exhibitions. Its botanical exhibition presents the flora of Trentino as well as the history and botanical richness of Monte Baldo. The Museo della Città presents Rovereto's history through urban artworks, archaeological finds, photographs, archival documents and multimedia media. Its chronological scope ranges from the origins in prehistory, through the medieval community, to the modern city.
A Local Detail with a Long History
The CoBo Museum of the Torrefazione Bontadi coffee house contains a collection of more than 300 tools used in coffee production and processing. Some of them are original pieces dating from 1790.
