Holiday apartment in Calceranica al Lago: lake, culture and mining history

Calceranica al Lago stretches from the hills to Lake Caldonazzo, combining the lake, cycle path, churches and mining history. A holiday apartment in Calceranica al Lago therefore opens up several aspects of a holiday: days by the water, outdoor activities and historical discoveries can all be included in your plans, without reducing the area to just one of its facets.

Lake and Valsugana cycle path

The lakeside features green shoreline areas, campsites, beaches and leisure activities. The Valsugana cycle path, which runs through Calceranica al Lago, is suitable for everyone, has no particularly steep climbs and follows long, straight sections with few changes of direction. When choosing a holiday apartment or accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you would prefer to focus your stay on the water or on a relaxing bike ride.

Mining history at the Museo della Miniera

The Museo della Miniera focuses on miners' equipment and accessories, documents, photographs, maps, as well as drilling, ventilation and transport machinery. Educational panels provide information about the area's local geology and mineralisation. The museum documents the intensive mining activity of the community of Calceranica from 1800 until the second half of the 20th century.

The mining history also includes a historical photograph from the Galleria Leyla, showing a train used to transport the extracted mineral. The Sentiero della Miniera – Percorso Verde circular trail starts at the Museo della Miniera, leads to mining and historical sites in Calceranica and Bosentino, follows an ancient Roman road through forests and along waterways, and returns via the Sentiero del Minatore.

Chiesa dell'Assunta and Chiesa di Sant'Ermete

The Chiesa dell'Assunta is a Gothic-Renaissance building. An inscription on the main portal states that the church was built before 1208 and reconsecrated in 1537. Its almost intact organ, built by Antonio Callido of Venice in 1805, is considered the only surviving organ by this organ builder in Trentino.

The Chiesa di Sant'Ermete is considered the oldest church in Valsugana. It stands in the historic centre of Calceranica al Lago on a rocky elevation where an altar dedicated to the goddess Diana was discovered. The town therefore brings together different historical layers: a church with a medieval and later consecration history, and a sacred building on a site with an ancient archaeological find.

Places and landscapes in the surrounding area

In the area around Calceranica al Lago, Villa Belfonte, Villa de Mersi and Villa Tambosi are palaces. Forte Doss Fornas, a fortress, is also nearby. The surrounding landscape also includes Marzola Sud, Mandrett and L'Omenet as peaks; La Marzola is a mountain. If you place greater emphasis on the landscape when choosing your holiday apartment, you can therefore choose from various mountain settings in the wider area in addition to the lake and the area's history.
