Holiday apartment in Lappach: mountain trails, gorge and winter experiences

Lappach combines mountain scenery with trails, regional culture and winter experiences. Above Lappach, the Neves Reservoir forms the head of the valley. Mountains of the Zillertal Alps surround the water and give the area a distinct alpine character.

High-altitude trail and Lappach Gorge

The Neves high-altitude trail starts at the Neves Reservoir in Lappach and can be begun in the direction of the Edelraut Hut or the Chemnitzer Hut. The trail leads over glacial moraines and remote rocky cirques through the glacial landscape of the three-thousand-metre peaks of Weißzint, Möseler and Turnerkamp on the Zillertal main ridge. The two hut destinations make the start at the reservoir a decision point for the hike. For planning purposes, the direction, terrain formations and route along the Zillertal main ridge are therefore directly connected.

Lappach Gorge offers another hiking option. The challenging, fully secured route through the gorge can be combined with an approximately 1.5-hour circular hike. This starts in the village of Lappach at the “Magic of Water” Museum and leads back there. Above Lappach, Lappach Gorge offers roaring water, cooling droplets of water and a special microclimate. The approximate duration refers to the circular route. Starting and returning at the museum mark the same point in the village, while the gorge, with its water droplets and microclimate, forms a separate section of the hike.

Winter trails and ice climbing

In winter, the 14.7 km-long Mühlwald–Lappach cross-country ski trail runs from Mühlwald to Lappach through snow-covered forests and meadows. It is suitable for both classic cross-country skiing and skating. The length of 14.7 km describes the connection between the two villages. The 14.7 km also gives the route a clearly defined length for personal stage planning.

The Lappach Ice Garden is a place for ice climbing on natural icefalls in Lappach. The access road leads from Lappach in the direction of the Neves Reservoir. After approximately 2 km, you reach the junction towards Zösenberg; the car park is then at the second turn-off on the left. For the approach, the direction towards the Neves Reservoir, the approximate distance to the junction and the second turn-off on the left are therefore the key landmarks. The distance given refers to the section up to the junction towards Zösenberg; from there, the directions continue via the second turn-off on the left to the car park.

Culture and flavour in Lappach

The “Sand Agnesen Church” in Lappach is already mentioned in 1426 in the documents of the Taufers parish archive. It was rebuilt and enlarged from 1812 to 1815 and consecrated on 19 September 1819.

At the Neves Alm on Lake Neves, farmer Agnes Laner demonstrates how Ahrntal Graukäse cheese is made. Afterwards, visitors can taste it. At the alpine pasture, the demonstration and tasting are two successive parts of the visit.
