Discover Salurn: Holiday apartment in Salurn for culture and nature
Salurn lies on the South Tyrolean Wine Road and combines historical discoveries with paths through forests and mountain landscapes. In the village, you can visit St. Andrew’s Church, the Whitsun Torbogenfest and an educational trail through the historic centre. Above Salurn, hiking trails lead into nature, while the cycle route along the Adige provides access to destinations towards Trento and Bolzano. This combination makes Salurn a versatile starting point when looking for a suitable holiday apartment.
Holiday apartment in Salurn between history and nature
The present-day St. Andrew’s Church dates from 1628–1640 and is considered one of the early examples of religious Renaissance architecture in the Province of Bolzano. Inside, there is a Baroque high altar dating from 1646, created by the Zugna brothers. The church therefore offers a specific insight into the architectural and artistic history of the village.
Every year at Whitsun, the traditional Torbogenfest takes place in the village centre. Another historical focus is the Scoprire Museum: It tells the story of Haderburg, the castle of Salurn, and displays finds from archaeological excavations in the “Doss della Forca” area south of Salurn. In the historic centre, an educational trail also invites visitors to view the façades of the old houses along Via Trento and in the upper part of the village. This makes it possible to combine cultural impressions directly with a tour of the village.
Hiking trails, forests and Haderburg
Mount Madrutta offers numerous hiking trails, some of which can also be accessed with a pushchair. The Sentiero delle scalette leads from the “Cascata” recreation area to a forest road and onwards to the “al palon” viewpoint. Those wishing to compare different hiking options will find both a family-friendly possibility and a distinctive viewpoint as a destination.
Haderburg can be reached on foot via a forest road known as the “Sentiero delle Visioni”. In summer, the castle hosts various events, including concerts, guided castle tours and themed evenings. Here, history appears not only in the museum exhibition, but also as the destination of a trail and as an event venue.
Above Salurn, mixed and coniferous forests surround the districts of Buchholz and Gfrill; parts of these forests are incorporated into the Trudner Horn Nature Park. Several hiking trails pass through the area, including the European long-distance trail E5. A varied hike from Pochi/Buchholz to Lago Santo follows the historic Dürer Trail through the forests of Monte Corno Nature Park. When planning a holiday apartment, these different interests in excursions can provide important guidance, without every day of the holiday having to look the same.
Getting around Salurn and the surrounding area
Quieter activities are also part of the local character: The Kneipp facility in Cauria di Salorno allows visitors to practise various Kneipp techniques. Access to this facility is step-free. The Scoprire Abenteuer Haderburg Museum likewise has step-free access. These two specific details can help you take cultural and relaxation-oriented destinations into account when planning your trip.
A cycle route runs along the Adige through the valley floor towards Trento and Bolzano. Regional trains to Bolzano, Trento and Verona stop at Salurn railway station. Those choosing accommodation in Salurn can therefore include cycling excursions and train connections in their personal plans alongside hikes and historical destinations. The holiday apartment thus becomes a starting point for a stay whose focus can vary between the village, nature, culture and other destinations.
