Its circular main chamber is approximately 12.50 meters wide and 16 meters high. The bell-shaped profile with a central opening creates the distinctive impression of this structure. The upper level can be reached via steps carved into the rock and comprises four interconnected rooms. The site also contains a Copper Age necropolis.

A prior reservation through the tourist information office of the Municipality of Alia is required to visit the Grotte della Gurfa. Guided tours include a historical and cultural tour. Travelers who wish to combine archaeological topics and nature when planning their trip can also explore the archaeological and nature trail “Menhir Pizzo della Madonna – Tholos della Gurfa”. It connects the Menhir of Pizzo della Madonna in Valledolmo with the Tholos della Gurfa in Alia. Stage 14 of the Antica Trasversale Sicula runs from Màrcato Bianco to Vallelunga Pratameno via the Grotte della Gurfa in Alia and Valledolmo.

MuCiA is housed in Palazzo Arrigo fu Sant’Elia, one of the oldest historic palaces in Alia. MuCiA includes the permanent exhibition “Terra e Luce. Dalla Gurfa al Roden Crater” and the ethnographic collection “Oliveri – Il Ciclo del grano”. Another way to explore local history is the Museo Etno Antropologico Valle del Torto in Casa Pittà. It occupies three floors and displays historic tools used for working iron, processing grain, caring for livestock, traditional crafts and producing dairy products.

The Museo del Territorio “Le opere e i giorni” presents Alia’s material culture through tools used for working iron, processing grain, caring for livestock and practicing traditional crafts. The Raccolta Oliveri – Il ciclo del Grano comprises 169 artifacts related to grain cultivation, breadmaking, winemaking and cheesemaking. The former workshop of Antonino Ferrara, a master of wrought iron, houses the Casa Museo del Fabbro. Sacred art and living tradition
