Abbasanta combines impressive nuraghi, churches from different periods, a historic center built from dark volcanic stone and distinctive regional cuisine.

Nuraghi and archaeological sites

Nuraghe Zuras is a single-tower monument dating from between the 14th and 12th centuries BC. Its characteristic feature is the precise workmanship of carefully hewn basalt blocks. Nuraghe Aiga has a different design: The multi-lobed monument has three side towers and a central mastio and is surrounded by the remains of a large village. Nuraghe Losa is a complex, three-lobed basalt nuraghe with chambers featuring ogival vaults.

The Bronze Age sacred well of Calegastea and the Bronze Age giants’ tomb of Sos Ozzastros are also among the archaeological sites in the Abbasanta area. Together with the nuraghi, these places give the trip a clear cultural and historical focus, without all the discoveries having to share the same character.

Churches and rural life

The parish church of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria stands in the town center. It dates back to a building constructed in the 16th century in the Gothic-Catalan style, built over the remains of a nuraghe. Sant’Amada, also known as Dorotea, is a church in Abbasanta built in the 16th century in the Gothic-Aragonese style. Santa Maria delle Grazie is a 17th-century church.

The META Museum presents rural and agro-pastoral life from the 19th century through the early 1950s.

Basalt, Casizolu and local character

The historic center of Abbasanta is characterized by traditional houses made of dark volcanic stone, or basalt. Abbasanta is also associated with Casizolu, a typical cow’s-milk cheese and a Slow Food Presidium. Those who enjoy discovering regional specialties on holiday and taking their time over their own meals can consciously take both aspects into account when planning a holiday apartment in Abbasanta.

Nature and planned equestrian activities

The approximately four-hectare Parco di S. Agostino lies among cork oaks and downy oaks. It offers opportunities for walks in spring and summer as well as excursions into nature. There is a small picnic area under the oaks at the Bonorchis spring. The spring can be reached by car via the road to Santu Lussurgiu, 9 km from Abbasanta, and via the turnoff at Tanca Regia.

At the Tanca Regia site, equestrian and breeding activities are scheduled for 2026 in the disciplines of endurance, dressage, eventing and show jumping. This creates a distinct timeframe for travel planning: Those wishing to follow these disciplines should expressly focus their plans on 2026.

Choose your holiday apartment in Abbasanta to match your travel theme

Cultural and historical days can be planned around the nuraghi, archaeological sites, churches and museum. For nature-focused excursions, the Parco di S. Agostino and Bonorchis are the main attractions. What matters here is less a general promise than the question of which places and themes should actually shape your trip.
