Santa Teresa Gallura between Sea, History and Nature

Santa Teresa Gallura is located on a promontory at the northern tip of Sardinia, overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio. This location combines coastal landscapes with impressive cultural and natural experiences. The Torre di Longonsardo stands on a promontory between the bays of Santa Reparata and Porto Longone. From there, it overlooks the sea bay and offers views of the white cliffs of nearby Corsica.

Holiday Apartment for Coastal Days and Historical Discoveries

The Torre di Longonsardo is also a landmark of Sardinian history. It was built between 1577 and 1599 at the behest of Philip II of Spain, using large granite blocks. In 1802, Sardinian rebels briefly seized the fortress before royal troops recaptured it and forced the rebels to surrender. The archaeological site of Lu Brandali offers another way to explore contemporary history. It dates from the period between the 14th and 10th centuries BC. The entrance is on the road to Capo Testa, on the left-hand side, is signposted and is located about 2 km from Santa Teresa Gallura.

The exhibition “LU BRANDALI: LEGGI, TOCCA, ASCOLTA” is also aimed at visitors who want to experience history through more than just texts. Its offerings include dedicated apps, 3D viewers and audio-touch trails.

Coastal Landscapes, Hiking Trails and Beach Days

The Capo Testa–Punta Falcone marine protected area is located in the municipality of Santa Teresa Gallura in northern Sardinia and extends across a marine area along the Strait of Bonifacio. The Parco Punta Contessa is also located within the municipality. It can be visited via smaller unpaved paths and a network of hiking trails.

Active Experiences for Different Holiday Days

A well-signposted circular hiking trail begins near the town, leads to Cala Grande, the famous Valle della Luna, and extends to the lighthouse overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio. Rena Bianca Beach can be reached from the centre of Santa Teresa Gallura on foot or by car via Via Eleonora d’Arborea and Via Giuseppe Verdi; one of the stairways from the main road then leads to the beach. These two options represent different ways of experiencing the area: a longer hike with several stops or a focused visit to the beach.

There are also various activities on the water. The diving centres in Santa Teresa Gallura offer services for beginners, professionals, children, adults and people with disabilities. They organise recreational and technical dives as well as courses for obtaining diving certifications, and they rent out equipment. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding excursions are organised activities in Santa Teresa Gallura: experienced local guides offer them by reservation for individuals, groups and families. Kayaking is considered suitable for the whole family, while stand-up paddleboarding is regarded as an activity for more athletic participants and takes place on windless days.

The coast of Porto Liscia Beach is considered particularly suitable for an entertaining and exciting adventure for adults and children. In addition, equestrian activities take place in Santa Teresa Gallura all year round; spring and autumn are considered the best seasons for rides.
