Oschiri combines a hilly and mountainous landscape with Mediterranean vegetation, extensive pastureland and a rich cultural history. The town lies at the foot of Monte Limbara in Gallura. Here, natural attractions and historical sites come together – an interesting combination if you want to discover Sardinia not only through its landscapes but also through its past. Choosing a holiday apartment in Oschiri can therefore be based on different priorities: outings into the countryside, visits to historical sites or designated routes of varying lengths.

Lake and mountain scenery around Oschiri

Lake Coghinas is an artificial lake created in 1927 by damming the river of the same name. Mediterranean scrub, holm oak forests and cork oak stands surround the lake. Lake Coghinas is also home to numerous bird species and aquatic fauna. The developed shoreline can be reached from Oschiri via the SS 392 towards Tempio Pausania and onward to the bridge. Another natural oasis is Su Filigosu, with Mediterranean scrub and wildlife. Together with Monte Limbara and the pastureland, these landscape features shape the natural diversity that you can take into account when planning your days.

Romanesque history and archaeological sites

Nostra Signora di Castro is a Romanesque church whose first written sources date from 1164 to 1174. It was the seat of a diocese until 1503. Another historical destination is located a short distance from Oschiri’s historic centre: the rock altar of Santo Stefano. The village of Malghesi is also home to the Domus de Janas necropolis, with 25 underground burial chambers.

MuseOs: History on two floors

The MuseOs – Museo Civico Archeologico ed Etnografico is divided into three sections across two floors. On display are prehistoric, Nuragic, Roman, Byzantine and medieval artefacts from archaeological sites in the Oschiri area. The exhibition space covers 600 square metres and features information screens as well as audio, documentary and video content for visitors. For a trip combining different interests, the museum offers a focused introduction to several historical periods, while the Domus de Janas necropolis and Nostra Signora di Castro complement these historical themes geographically and thematically.

Designated routes and different daily itineraries

The Puttu Iscia – Badde fustes alvos route is designated as a 20 km gravel route. The Diga Coghinas – Bigalzu – Nuraconi route is 16 km long, while the Filigosu – Tandalò route is 18 km long. The different lengths help you compare various options when planning your trip, without experiencing the landscape in just one way. A holiday apartment in Oschiri can serve as your chosen accommodation location for a stay whose focus shifts between the lake, mountain scenery, archaeology and culture – this does not imply anything about the specific facilities or availability of individual accommodations.
