Budoni is a destination for travellers who want to combine the coast, nature experiences and history in a single holiday. Coastal ponds, Mediterranean maquis, paths to coves, a museum dedicated to rural civilisation and evidence of Nuragic culture give the area many different facets. When choosing a holiday apartment in Budoni, you can therefore first decide whether you want your days to be shaped more by the water, observing landscapes, physical activity or cultural discoveries.

Between Olbia, Porto Ottiolu and the coast

Budoni is located around 30 kilometres south of Olbia’s port and airport. The town can be reached via the four-lane SS 131 d.c.n. and the SS 125. For arrival by boat, Porto Ottiolu offers berthing, shipyard and support services for boats. The waterfront promenade is lined with shops, bars and restaurants. Both the road connection and the maritime arrival point are therefore concrete factors that can be taken into account when choosing a holiday apartment in Budoni.

Coastal ponds, water and birdlife

Budoni’s coastal area includes five coastal ponds: Li Cucutti, Li Salineddi, Stagno Morto, Sant’Anna and Stagno di Porto Ainu. Salamaghe offers turquoise, crystal-clear water, a green pine forest and a species-rich coastal pond. Budoni’s ponds are home to overwintering greater flamingos, little egrets and ospreys. The wetlands of the former province of Olbia-Tempio are also home to the purple gallinule, which is protected under the Habitats Directive; its population there is estimated at 20 to 30 breeding pairs.

Rural tradition and Nuragic culture

The Museo dello Stazzo e della Rural Civilisation consists of three rooms. These include the photographic room “Come eravamo”, which depicts the everyday life and occupations that are no longer practised today by the inhabitants of Budoni and its districts. The museum was created to rediscover old traditions and, in particular, to reassess the stazzo. Visitors can also see tools that were used by farmers who lived in the traditional stazzi of Gallura. The Nuraghe Conca ’e Bentu in Solità is an important testimony to Nuragic culture: the single-room tower structure has a central chamber and three cross-shaped niches.

Paths for active days

The guided Itinerario ArcheoSensoriale in Solità is an easy 3-kilometre walk lasting 3 hours through fields, olive groves and Mediterranean maquis to the Nuraghe Conca ’e Bentu and the Domus de Janas. The “Il Porto Nascosto” route leads from the small beach north of the Darsena in Porto Ottiolu via Cala dei Francesi, Poltu Cuatu and Punta Li Tulchi through the Mediterranean maquis. During rides from the equestrian centre, a path leads through the pine forest of Agrustos past small hidden coves to the Li Cucutti pond; greater flamingos may possibly be observed there. The “Budoni verso sud” cycling experience starts at Via Nazionale and heads towards the beaches of Baia di Budoni through the southern part of the Budoni area. Ayó a Pesca A.S.D. accompanies adults and children while snorkelling in the species-rich seabed of the Tavolara and Molara marine protected area.

Choose a holiday apartment in Budoni based on your holiday idea

When looking for a holiday apartment in Budoni, you can base your choice on the experiences you have planned: Porto Ottiolu stands for arrival by boat, the waterfront promenade and the coastal path; Solità for Nuragic culture and the guided walk; Agrustos for the horse ride; and the southern part of the area for the cycling tour to Baia di Budoni. Anyone planning to observe nature will find another specific focus in the coastal ponds and wetlands.
