Ussassai between Forests, Water and Wildlife
The Sorgente di Milisai lies in a forest of holm oaks and Mediterranean maquis shrubs. It is also located within the SIC Monti del Gennargentu (ITB021103), which is part of the Natura 2000 network. This combination of forest, water and protected-area status gives Ussassai a distinct natural profile. Part of Montarbu lies within the territory of Ussassai; this section has been a wildlife oasis since 1980. The wildlife of the Montarbu wildlife oasis includes deer, wild boar, foxes, squirrels, fallow deer and mouflon. A holiday apartment in Ussassai can therefore be tailored to your interest in nature.
Native Mediterranean trout have been identified along the Riu Donna Pruna. Su Tuvu Nieddu is a natural bridge that a river has carved out of limestone over time. There is also an equipped picnic area with springs providing fresh drinking water, which can also be reached by car from the refreshment venue. Nature observation and rest can be considered here as different ways to spend the day.

Historic Sites and Living Village Traditions
The Santuario campestre di San Salvatore dates back to the 12th century and was built in the Romanesque-Byzantine style. According to tradition, it was the church of Trobigitei. Stone cumbessias surround the sanctuary and serve as accommodation for the faithful during the celebrations. In Niala, there is a work of art by Pinuccio Sciola consisting of six limestone spheres. The Ponte di Irtzioni, also known as Ponte di San Girolamo, is an iron bridge from the late 19th century and is considered by many to be one of the most characteristic sections of the network travelled by the tourist train. Sa Coja Antiga is a historical re-enactment of the traditional village wedding and takes place between mid-August and the end of August.
