Narcao combines mining history, woodland landscapes, regional specialities and music to create a destination with many different facets. The mining village of Rosas is particularly distinctive: the Rosas Mine in Narcao offers guided tours through underground tunnels featuring original machinery and historic mining structures. This makes the history of mining tangible not only through buildings, but also through preserved work areas and technical evidence.

Holiday apartment in Narcao between history and hiking trails

In the mining village of Rosas, hiking trails follow old miners’ paths through lush forests. Along the way, they offer insights into the local flora and fauna as well as historic mining structures. In addition, the Rosas Mines offer interactive educational workshops on mineral searching and simulated mining work.

The historic surroundings of the mining village also tell of life in the area in earlier times. Rosas was built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The restored houses tell of the everyday lives of the families who worked and lived there. The historic mining village is also home to the Rosas Mineralogical Museum, which displays a diverse collection of minerals and artefacts from local mines.

Culture, events and a speciality from Terraseo

The International Narcao Blues Festival is held in Piazza Europa in Narcao with national and international artists and has reached 36 editions. The Narcao Blues Festival was established in 1989; the cultural association Progetto Evoluzione organises the festival. Music is therefore just as much a defining part of the town’s cultural offering as its mining history.

Fagiolo bianco di Terraseo adds a distinctive culinary touch. This is a local bean ecotype produced in Terraseo, a district of Narcao. The name therefore refers directly to a district and to a regionally rooted product.
