Discover Musei: Culture, Nature and Holiday Apartment
Accommodation in Musei
Musei between history and landscape
Musei is located in the town centre, on the Cixerri plain and along a historic route between Iglesias, the lower Campidano and Cagliari. The area is particularly rich in water thanks to rivers fed by springs from Monte Domusnovas. The Pineta di Musei, a park with pine and eucalyptus trees, is also located nearby. Those planning a holiday apartment in Musei will find a place where historical themes, rural impressions and specific excursion destinations can be combined.
Church, archive and visible local history
The parish church of Sant’Ignazio di Loyola is a late Baroque church with a clearly articulated upper and lower façade. It is easily accessible from the town centre of Musei; it is accessible to people with disabilities because it has no architectural barriers. Next to the church stands the Palazzotto degli Asquer, a former Jesuit residence connected to it by a tribune.
The Archivio Storico Comunale preserves documents, registers, records and testimonies relating to the historical, administrative and social development of the Musei area. The materials can be consulted for administrative purposes, study and historical research. The Archivio Storico Comunale also has no architectural barriers. Another place to visit in the town is the Biblioteca Comunale di Musei, with lending and advisory services. Book presentations, workshops and meetings for children, young people and adults take place there.
The established townscape still includes many houses with Ladiri masonry and Sardinian roof tiles. Sa domu e sa pala is a rammed-earth building. The large silos of Musei were used to store feed. The ancient archaeological heritage includes nuraghi as well as Punic and Roman remains. The history of agriculture is also connected with Musei: the Jesuit administration of Musei promoted local agriculture, and the Jesuits introduced improved livestock-breeding methods.
Nature, festival and hiking stage
The Pineta di Musei nearby offers tables, barbecue areas, running water and public toilets. A legume is also cultivated in the Musei area. A fixed date in the annual calendar is the patron saint’s festival in honour of Sant’Ignazio di Loyola, celebrated every year on 31 July. For hiking enthusiasts, stage 15 of the Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara begins at Domusnovas-Musei and ends in Orbai.
When choosing between a holiday apartment and a holiday home, you can base your decision on your own priorities: would you like to focus on church history, archive holdings and the historic townscape, or are you more interested in the pine forest, the water-rich landscape, regional agriculture and a hiking stage? The different themes help you determine your preferred daily itinerary without reducing Musei to just one type of trip.
