Calasetta invites you on a journey where coast and inherited history stand side by side. At the multimedia museum Ràixe, the history and traditions of the Tabarchini are conveyed through testimonies from the community, video interviews, archival material and family photos. For you, this provides a first introduction to a place whose cultural themes can be experienced through memories, images and voices.

Culture in Calasetta and Virtual Coastal Views

The Ràixe exhibition tour extends across two floors. 20 exhibition panels and tablets with QR codes make it possible to read or listen to the history of the Tabarchini in five languages. The archive also offers a virtual journey through the coastal towers of Calasetta, Carloforte and Sant’Antioco. This allows historical content and maritime motifs to be explored in different ways.

The MACC is also closely connected with a special building: it is housed in a restored former slaughterhouse. The MACC permanent exhibition was donated by the artist Ermanno Leinardi in 2000. Together with Ràixe, the museum forms a cultural focal point for travellers who want to shape their stay not only around the sea, but also around art and regional history.

Prehistoric Traces and Distinctive Coastlines

The Domu de Janas di Tupei is a prehistoric site where terracotta, bronze and clay objects have been found.

The beaches of Calasetta include La Salina. Its soft sand forms dunes around a pond described as a bird oasis. Cala Lunga is an emerald-green fjord that leads from the open sea to a sheltered beach. Both coastal landscapes represent different scenery: here, sand, dunes and a pond shape the impression; there, the transition from the sea to a sheltered beach does.

The Spiaggia Grande on the island of Sant’Antioco offers another coastal landscape. It stretches for more than one kilometre along the western side of the island. Spiaggia Grande has a shallow, sandy seabed that slopes gently and is located on a bay protected from the wind.

Water Experiences and Historic Places

Sottotorre takes its name from a watchtower built by the Savoy dynasty in 1756. Today, Sottotorre is a venue for exhibitions and cultural activities. There is a surf school at Spiaggia Grande, and boat trips are offered at Spiaggia Grande and in its surroundings. Nido dei passeri is a pair of coastal rocks that serve as a refuge for birds.

From Calasetta, you can take the ferry to the island of San Pietro.

Choose the Right Holiday Apartment in Calasetta

When choosing your holiday apartment or holiday home in Calasetta, the holiday rhythm you want can therefore be the main consideration. If you prefer museums and historical traces, Ràixe, the MACC and the Domu de Janas di Tupei offer different themes. For days on the coast, there are La Salina, Cala Lunga and Spiaggia Grande, each with its own landscape features. The surf school, boat trips and ferry ride to the island of San Pietro add water-based activities to this selection. This allows you to choose your accommodation based on the mix of culture, nature, relaxation and activities that suits your trip.
