Sarroch between Nature and History

Sarroch combines nature, archaeological evidence and events. The Parco Pubblico covers 3.20 hectares of Mediterranean scrub. Numerous waterfowl live in its artificial pond.

The Nuraghe Antigori is part of the historical heritage. The fortified Nuragic citadel is located on a hill 3 km north of Sarroch, opposite SARAS. From Sarroch, the Nuraghe Sa Domu e s’Orcu can also be reached via a signposted route and a footpath of around 300 m. This makes it possible to incorporate different forms of archaeological discovery into your own daily itinerary.

Villa, Church and the Route via Sa Punta

Villa Siotto is an early 20th-century manor house. In the past, it was a fully operational agricultural estate where large quantities of olive oil and wine, as well as a wide variety of fruit, were produced. A historical and nature trail that can be walked year-round leads from the courtyard of Villa Siotto through its park to the Nuraghe Sa Domu e s’Orcu. It then follows the paths of the hills of Sa Punta, offering expansive views of the Golfo degli Angeli, as far as the Torre del Diavolo, an ancient coastal tower from the 17th century that stands steeply above the sea.

The new parish church of Santa Vittoria also preserves several artefacts from the former parish church: an 18th-century reliquary, a 19th-century Lignum Crucis, parts of the church silverware and several wooden statues. Anyone travelling to Sarroch who wishes to view not only paths and landscapes but also religious works of art will find another specific reason to visit here.

Festivals and Events in Sarroch

The annual Festa di Sant’Efisio takes place from 1 to 4 May and passes through Sarroch. On 1 May, the procession of Sant’Efisio reaches the church of Santa Vittoria, stays there overnight and continues to Pula the following morning. Sarroch also took part in the Monumenti Aperti event for the third consecutive time on 30 and 31 May.

For the fifth consecutive time, the Mercatini del Borgo took place in the districts of Perd’e Sali and Porto Columbu. In the Parco Pubblico, Sarroch has an amphitheatre where cultural, theatrical and film events take place in summer. Thus, alongside historical locations, public event venues are also on the agenda – a distinction that may play a role when planning days together with differing interests.

Active Days in Sarroch

Sa Marcialonga follows an approximately 12.5 km route from the centre of Sarroch to Procileddu in the heart of the Parco di Gutturu Mannu. The short footpath to the nuraghi and the route to Procileddu therefore represent different day plans.

The Parco Pubblico, the historic buildings and the events provide additional focal points. The individual experiences do not have to be combined into a single itinerary.
