Bithia and the History of the Headland

The archaeological site of Bithia lies above and at the foot of the Torre di Chia headland. The settlement was founded around 720 BC. East of the acropolis and near the mouth of the river port, the sacred tofet is located on the islet of Su Cardolinu. It was established in the final years of the 7th century BC.

The ascent to the Torre di Chia headland is recommended only for people in good physical condition.

The Capo Spartivento Marine Protected Area covers more than 3,700 hectares of sea and 10 kilometres of protected coastline. Su Giudeu is a beach in Domus de Maria. The coastal landscape is complemented by a forest area that serves as a wildlife haven for Sardinian deer and fallow deer.

Excursions on foot are possible in the wooded mountain areas of Domus de Maria.
