The name “Villa Regia” is documented for the year 1225 near the Dora and the Church of San Martino. A notable testament to the town’s history is the medieval Torre-Porta. It dates from the 13th century and is considered the only surviving medieval monument in Villareggia. Its archway leads to the Ricetto, the old town centre.
The Church of Santa Marta, dating from the 16th century, stands in the Ricetto square. The Parish Church of San Martino is the only surviving part of the former village of Uliacco, which has since disappeared. After a short 24-hour maturation period, it can be eaten as an appetiser or snack with a slice of bread and a glass of Canavese Rosso.
Since 2007, the Comitato Manifestazioni Villareggesi has also organised the Sagra del Brut. Another established part of local life is the Palio d'la Vila, which has been organised in Villareggia since 2006. The four Cantoni Arset, Campore, Frassjon and Ujè compete against one another in various disciplines, including living draughts, log felling, relay races and games for children.
