Arborea between the Canale Cavour and history

Arborea lies on the left bank of the Canale Cavour.

The 5.6 km-long Percorso P cycle path runs along the Canale Cavour and leads to the Cascina Piccono di Arborea. The specific route length is a useful figure for planning your day; at the same time, the route remains thematically connected to the watercourse and a historic destination. At the destination, the view shifts from the watercourse to a historic farmstead complex.

Architectural history at Cascina Piccono

Its history dates back to 1669; at that time, Cascina Piccono belonged to the land register of Verolengo. Its layout follows the pattern typical of farmsteads in the Piedmontese-Lombard plain: buildings stand on four sides and enclose an inner courtyard.

Cascina Piccono can be reached via State Road 31 bis by following the signs to the nearby town centre of Arborea. The Chiesetta di Sant'Eurosia at Cascina Piccono has an 18th-century layout, a central floor plan and a small east-facing apse with an altar. It contains three paintings; the most significant is dedicated to Saint Eurosia and is located behind the altar. The chapel is situated at Cascina Piccono and forms a separate sacred space.

Arborea has a history in the Verolengo area dating back to the second half of the 16th century. The Festa del Ringraziamento is a peasant thanksgiving for the gifts of the earth, favourable weather and good health; Saint Anthony Abbot is invoked as the patron saint of animals. It is celebrated on 17 January or the following public holiday. The January date places the thanksgiving in the winter season.
