The Bosco del Re offers special insights into the designed landscape. The Ninfeo is a central feature between the formal garden and the landscape park and is supplied by an approximately 110-metre-long underground water channel. The Bosco del Re is also home to the Torre del Roccolo, which was built around the middle of the 19th century as an observation tower so that the young Vittorio Emanuele II could hunt migratory birds. Two entrances help with orientation: Santa Brigida 3 and Viale Rimembranza. In the old town at the foot of the Castello Reale lies the Giardino delle Rose. Its distinctive form is an exedra, and numerous roses shape the garden.

Castle, squares and historic spaces

The Castello di Moncalieri is one of the Savoy residences of Piedmont that have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997. The present size of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, formerly Piazza Maggiore, dates back to 1629; the residences of the most important noble families are located on the piazza. Porta Navina is the only surviving one of Moncalieri’s original medieval fortified gates.

The Real Collegio Carlo Alberto is located in a former Franciscan monastery from the 13th century that was rebuilt in the 18th century. Today it houses archaeological, artistic and natural history collections, as well as collections of scientific instruments. The Real Collegio Carlo Alberto is open to the public by prior registration; guided tours take place on the first Sunday and on the second, third and fourth Saturday of each month.

Theatre, library and living tradition

The Fonderie Teatrali Limone comprises two theatres and two rehearsal rooms. They were founded in 1924 by Giuseppe Limone in Moncalieri’s Borgo Mercato. Admission is subject to a fee for the performances scheduled in the programme of the Fonderie Teatrali Limone.

The Biblioteca Civica “A. Arduino” is housed in part of the former SAFFA match factory. This factory was founded in Moncalieri in the second half of the 19th century; the building was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the library is a media library and art gallery with books, magazines, DVDs, audio CDs, computers and works of contemporary art. The celebrations of Beato Bernardo form another lasting link to the city’s history: they are a centuries-old tradition in Moncalieri and combine religious and civic events.

Special tours and seasonal delights

The Castello Segreto visitor experience explores lesser-known areas of the Castello Reale di Moncalieri that are not normally open to visitors. Since June 2026, the Castello Segreto route has also included the castle’s Cappella Regia. The Royal Community Tour Moncalieri includes admission to the Castello di Moncalieri. Cavolfiore di Moncalieri is available for sale from mid-October until the end of winter.
