Architectural history and historic sites
Castello di Brusasco was built around the year 1000 by Berengario, Margrave of Friuli and King of Italy. The present-day building of Castello di Brusasco dates from the mid-18th century. Another historical layer is connected with the Risorgimento: in 1859, Castello di Brusasco hosted Giuseppe Garibaldi and the newly established corps of the Cacciatori delle Alpi. Thus, this building brings together a medieval origin, a later architectural form, and a specific event in Italian history.
Palazzo Ellena also represents the architectural history of Brusasco. The building dates from the 18th century and is attributed to the architect Giovanni Maria Molino. Access to Palazzo Ellena is possible while the municipal library is open and during events.
Trails and different starting points
The Percorso R circular trail and the Pachamama Pathway have different starting points. The Percorso R circular trail begins at the Romanesque church of San Pietro. The Pachamama Pathway begins in the Lago degli Aironi district, at the former Cava Buschini quarry, in Brusasco. The starting points link different aspects of the locality: on one side there is a Romanesque church, while on the other there is a district with a former use as a quarry. This difference may be helpful to you if you would prefer to base your day planning on sacred architectural history or on landscape and local history.
Parks and destinations in the surrounding area
Several parks are located around Brusasco: Parco di Via Togliatti, Parco Fluviale del Bricel, and Parco del Mauriziano. Also in the surrounding area are Museo Clizia - Palazzo Luigi Einaudi, a museum, and two castles: Castello di Gabiano and Castello di Piea. The range therefore extends from parks and gardens to a museum and historic castles.
Further destinations in the surrounding region
In the wider surrounding region of Brusasco is Foresteria del Castello di Camino, a fort. Also located there is Arco Charles Emmanuel I - Emmanuel Philibert of Savoy, a natural arch. The two destinations already differ clearly in their classification: one is a fort, while the other is a natural arch. Together with Castello di Brusasco, Palazzo Ellena, the parks, and the trailheads, they extend the view beyond Brusasco.
For further orientation, you can also view Cinzano, Bussoleno, Beinasco, Lanzo Torinese, Sciolze, Ceres, Borgone Susa and Villar Perosa.
