Alpine culture and history in the village
La Dogana Reale on Via Sibaud houses the headquarters of the Centre for Alpine Culture. The Monumento Sibaud adds another cultural highlight. From the centre of Bobbio Pellice, you can reach it via a path or road on a comfortable walk of around 30 minutes. The Monumento Sibaud was inaugurated in 1889 as part of the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the “Glorioso Rimpatrio”.
The Museo del Podio exhibition is located in a restored 19th-century neighbourhood school. Some furnishings are still on display there. The museum is part of a historical walking tour opened in 2020 that connects important places in the municipality of Bobbio Pellice associated with events from the 16th and 17th centuries. Località del Podio was also the site of a pact concluded in 1561 between the Protestant communities of Val Pellice and Alta Val Chisone.
Natural landscapes, trails and day planning
Conca del Prà is a postglacial geomorphological area. Its basin landscape formed after landslides, following the retreat of the Pleistocene glaciers, blocked the valley floor. Conca del Prà belongs to the Natura 2000 SAC Oasi del Pra - Barant. This makes it a landscape whose geological formation is just as interesting as its place within a larger natural area.
From Villanova, Conca del Prà can be reached via trail TOS115 and via a gravel road with regulated access. A gravel road also runs through Oasi del Barant. The paved road through Valle Carbonieri leads to Pianoro Barbara; from there, walks in nature are possible. This gives you different ideas for planning your days without having to force culture, landscapes, and exercise into a single programme.
Hiking and cycling in Val Pellice
The Gran Tour del Monviso can be started from Val Pellice via Conca del Prà. One access route follows the SP161 to the hamlet of Villanova di Bobbio Pellice, where you can leave your car. In Valle Carbonieri, the climb to Rifugio Barbara Lowrie is frequently used by cyclists and mountain bikers.
Another route leads from Rifugio Barbara Lowrie via Colle Barant at 2,373 m to Rifugio Willy Jervis at 1,732 m. The different routes and elevations give you a practical basis for alternating between walks, a longer mountain route, and bike rides during your trip. Especially for families with different activity levels, it can be helpful not to plan every holiday day in the same way, but to combine cultural visits with experiences in nature.
Alpine products as a local highlight
At Alp Partia d'Amount 1, milk processed at the alpine pasture is used to make Toma and ricotta. In addition to landscapes and history, this also brings a local Alpine product tradition into focus.
