Holiday apartment in Fornace: Discover nature, cycling routes and culture

Fornace is part of the local area surrounding the Riserva Naturale Crava-Morozzo. The landscape along the Pesio, a nature trail and several cycling routes each offer a different focus. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Fornace, you can plan your stay around nature, active routes and historical insights into rural life.

Holiday apartment in Fornace between the Pesio and Crava-Morozzo

The Riserva naturale di Crava-Morozzo covers 300 hectares along the Pesio and lies within the municipalities of Rocca de’ Baldi, Morozzo and Mondovì. The protected Oasi di Crava Morozzo covers 187.99 hectares in Rocca de’ Baldi. As a result, extensive protected landscapes shape the character of the stay, without limiting nature experiences to a single route.

The reserve’s cycle path runs for 3 kilometres from Crava to Morozzo. The nature trail along the Pesio leads to Lago di Crava, crosses a canal via a distinctive wooden bridge and reaches the cycle path. A roughly 5-kilometre, mostly unpaved path begins on the road from the entrance to the Oasi towards Rocca de’ Baldi and runs westwards. In addition, a 44-kilometre cycling route leads from Fossano via Trinità and Rocca de’ Baldi to Mondovì; it includes 430 metres of ascent and 420 metres of descent. The different lengths help you plan active days according to the desired intensity of the route.

Rocca de’ Baldi: History, agriculture and museums

Castello di Rocca de’ Baldi began as an imposing defensive fortress and became the residence of the Morozzo della Rocca marquises in 1675. The park contains an old orchard with historic apple varieties as well as quince and mulberry trees. The old centre of Rocca de’ Baldi lies on a triangular rocky spur bordered by the Pesio and Pogliola streams. At the Castello, visitors can see the Hall of Honour, the Blue Room and the Alcove Room with decorated wooden ceilings in delicate pastel colours.

At the Museo Storico Etnografico A. Doro in Rocca de’ Baldi, you can see tools, materials and photographs relating to rural life. The museum also organises research, conferences and exhibitions on the history and traditions of local agriculture. The Museo Etnografico Augusto Doro currently displays a collection of toys from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum also includes a cobbler’s workshop in a small room on the ground floor of the castle wing dating from the 17th century.
