Holiday apartment in Cavatore: towers, churches and ridge trails

Cavatore is a medieval hilltop village between the Erro Valley and the valley of the Torrente Visone. Visitors will find points of interest ranging from striking religious buildings and the Torre di Cavatore to paths through Cavatore’s historic streets and along a panoramic ridge. Cavatore can also be reached from the hamlets of Lussito and Ovrano.

Towers, religious buildings and Piedmontese architecture

The Torre di Cavatore is the oldest tower in the area. The square keep has three openings. Its clean lines make it a distinctive subject for anyone interested in medieval architecture.

The Chiesa del Cimitero has been recognized by the heritage authority as a rare example of the purest Piedmontese Romanesque style. Paintings from the second half of the 15th century have been preserved in the apse basin.

The Chiesa di San Rocco is an oratory whose construction began around 1783 and was completed in 1835. The construction phase of San Rocco lasted from approximately 1783 to 1835 and spans the transition from the 18th to the 19th century. The Chiesa di San Lorenzo lies outside Cavatore’s main settlement area on a road leading to the former defensive centre of the bishops of Acqui Terme.

Ridges and trails for active days

The Sentiero Acqui Terme–Cavatore runs along a panoramic ridge. In clear conditions, the view extends from the Monte Rosa massif to Monviso. The route combines a specific hiking trail with a wide-ranging mountain panorama.

The “Sentiero Valle Croce–Cavatore” leads through Cavatore’s historic streets to the town hall; the Sentiero 537 to Acqui Terme begins there. This route therefore connects the village with a longer trail to Acqui Terme.

The short variant connects Trail 531 (Acqui Terme–Tiglieto) with Trail 537 (Acqui Terme–Cavatore) and allows hikers to follow the 14.68-kilometre “Anello delle Ginestre” route, starting and finishing in Acqui (Zona Bagni). Having the same starting and finishing area makes the route appealing as a circular tour. With the 14.68-kilometre “Anello delle Ginestre” route, breaks and a suitable timeframe for the hiking day can be incorporated into the planning from the outset.

At the 21st edition of the “Da 'n bric a 'n 'oter” hike, the event was organized by the cultural association “Torre di Cavau” O.D.V. The approximately 7-kilometre route led through the hills around Cavatore and ended with a lunch available by reservation. At approximately 7 kilometres, this hike is shorter than the 14.68-kilometre “Anello delle Ginestre” route.
