In the Giardini Le 11 Eroine, a monument commemorates eleven girls from Marotta who came to the aid of the crew of the armed naval pontoon Faà di Bruno on 18 November 1917 during the First World War, after it had run aground off Marotta.

A Roman-era cistern shows that Marotta was used or visited during the Roman period. The Cippo Confinario bears a long Latin inscription and marked a kind of state border for centuries. The Antico Pozzo in Marotta was built by the municipality in 1927 for the local community.

Festa della Tratta: cuisine and local festival

The Festa della Tratta usually takes place in the last week of July on Marotta’s seafront promenade, at the free beach next to the pier. It features food stalls serving typical dishes from Marotta’s cuisine. At the Festa della Tratta, the experiences associated with it can once again be enjoyed today thanks to special permits from the Capitaneria di Porto. If your travel dates coincide with the festival, regional cuisine combines with a special experience by the sea.

The townscape also includes Marotta-Mondolfo railway station, which is one of the region’s industrial archaeology monuments.
