Holiday apartment in Apiro: history, lake and nature
Apiro combines a historic center protected by castle walls with churches, Lago Castreccioni and the Piani di Apiro plateau. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Apiro, you can therefore shape your trip around different interests: history and art, water and activities, observing nature or summer events.
Holiday apartment in Apiro amid history and landscapes
In the center, the castle walls preserve monuments and works of art of great interest. The Torrione was part of Apiro’s city walls. These were built in two phases: the first in the 12th century and the second in the first half of the 15th century, during the time of Francesco Sforza. The Torrione thus combines two phases in the town’s history.
The Abbazia di Sant’Urbano was consecrated in 1086 by Bishop Ugone di Camerino and rebuilt in the Romanesque-Gothic style in the 13th century. Its apse area has three semicircular apses: one larger central apse and two smaller side apses. There is also the phenomenon known as the “occhio luminoso,” which occurs at 7 a.m. on May 25 and July 19. Sunlight illuminates a carved circle inside the church and another circle at the base of the only round column in the crypt. This gives your cultural itinerary a precisely dated moment to include.
The Collegiata di Sant’Urbano also tells part of Apiro’s history: in 1632, a papal bull issued by Urban VIII elevated it to the status of a collegiate church. It houses precious sacred silver furnishings as well as a carved and gilded wooden reliquary. The Museo Musi Tinti focuses on something different. It is an ecomuseum dedicated to the traditional craft of charcoal burning and features interactive spaces, original objects and a reconstruction of a charcoal kiln.
Lake, plateau and active days
At Lago Castreccioni, also known as Lago di Cingoli, nature and active pursuits come together. The largest artificial basin in the Marche region lies within the municipalities of Apiro and Cingoli; fishing, trekking and water sports are possible at the lake. The “Dal Lago di Castreccioni alle vette del San Vicino” route is suitable for mountain biking. The service provided for this purpose must be reserved separately.
The Piani di Apiro form an expansive plateau covered with pine trees. They are suitable for nature excursions and offer views stretching from the Sibillini Mountains to the sea. Parco Acquatico Eldorado offers slides, including some of the longest in Europe, a lagoon, swimming pools, play areas and sports facilities. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore weigh up nature observation, physical activity and leisure options.
Summer events in Apiro
Apiro’s summer events program includes the traditional Sagra della Polenta and the international folk festival “Terranostra.” This gives groups with different interests a clear choice between historical themes, active days, nature excursions and leisure activities.
