Villa Romana was founded on January 6, 1925, in a hilly area shaped by the landscape of Ancona. In 2013, Villa Romana was officially included in the Elenco dei Locali Storici delle Marche. This recognition confirms its cultural and historical value for the area.

Hiking trails between Ancona and Villa Romana

The CAI Ancona–Varano–Valle del Boranico–Varano hiking route is classified as T – tourist, is approximately 10 kilometers long and takes about three and a half hours without breaks. It leads from the valley of the Miano stream uphill to Villa Romana. Anyone planning this route should take into account not only the approximate duration of three and a half hours without breaks, but also the approximately 10 kilometers and the ascent from the valley of the Miano stream to Villa Romana. On the CAI Ancona–Varano–Valle del Boranico–Varano hiking route, time for planned breaks is not included in the approximate walking time without breaks; it requires its own time allowance in the day’s planning.

Routes across Conero and through the districts

The Grande Traversata del Conero also follows a route from Ancona to Sirolo, continuing from Casa delle Culture via Villa Romana and Montacuto. The section passing through Villa Romana is 16 kilometers long. The Cammino della Porta d'Oriente begins with a stage from Ancona to Poggio. It is classified as T – tourist and is 18.36 kilometers long. The stage follows the old road from Pietralacroce to the hilltop of Villa Romana; from there, the route continues between the districts of Montacuto and Varano. For day planning purposes, the 16 kilometers of the Grande Traversata and the 18.36 kilometers of the Cammino therefore remain separate sections of the route.

Woodland landscape around Conero

The hill leading up to Villa Romana was formerly cultivated land that was later abandoned. Nature gradually took over there, with typical woodland plants of the hilly landscape of the Marche region. The woodland near Villa Romana includes field maple, manna ash, downy oak, hop hornbeam and southern ash.

The Direzione Parco eco-trail is 5 kilometers long and runs through a regional natural and protected area of Conero. Along level ground, it leads to the level of the Villa Romana restaurant on Via del Castellano. The upper woodland section of this trail reaches Villa Romana.
