Romanesque Art at Santa Maria delle Moie
Moie is home to the Abbey of Santa Maria delle Moie, one of the most important Romanesque buildings in the Marche region. The abbey was founded by Benedictine monks and probably built in the first decades of the 12th century. In the central apse of the church’s right aisle, there is a 16th-century fresco depicting Saint Anthony the Great. The church also houses an 18th-century oil painting of the Madonna della Misericordia, which is regarded as Moie’s patron image. This creates a cultural focal point where architectural history and religious art are closely connected.
From Brickworks to Cultural Centre
Another focal point is the Biblioteca La Fornace, a public library in Moie. It opened in 2007 after a brickworks that had operated until 1966 was repurposed. Today, the former brickworks building serves as a cultural centre called eFFeMMe23.
