Via CAI trail 129, the hike returns to its starting point across the slopes of Monte Vallarga through flower-rich undergrowth. Primroses, violets, crocuses and snowdrops grow there, among other plants.

The Giano Springs can be reached from Cancelli via the Fonti del Giano hike; the Giano rises on Monte Maggio. The area is also home to Monte Fano, a mountain, and Monte Serra Santa, another mountain. Monte Culumeo and Monte Cielo are peaks in the area around Cancelli.

Historic paths and distinctive local connections

The history of the paths is also part of the character of the surrounding area. The monastery of Santa Maria d’Appennino was probably founded in the 10th century by the lords of Rocca d’Appennino near the Croce d’Appennino Pass. At Camporege, the Sentiero della Carta reaches the site of the old fulling mill of the merchant Lodovico di Ambrogio di Bonaventura and leads to Cancelli–S.Maria d’Appennino.
