Holiday apartment in Colmegna on Lake Maggiore
Accommodation in Colmegna
Colmegna on Lake Maggiore reveals its character through a distinctive blend of an old village, lakeshore, trails and cultural destinations. For you, this means that a holiday apartment in Colmegna can be chosen according to very different vacation ideas – between village history, views, beach, hiking and a traditional festival.

Holiday apartment in Colmegna between village and lake
The old village of Colmegna consists of two historically old centers. One lies near the small harbor and is characterized by a picturesque row of fishermen’s houses. The other is situated somewhat higher up around the Chiesa di Santa Caterina. This layout alone clearly illustrates the difference between a stay by the water and a walk through the higher village area.
Santa Caterina and villa architecture
The Chiesa di Santa Caterina has a single-nave layout and two chapels on each side. It stands on an elevated church square on the edge of Colmegna and offers panoramic views of the central basin of Lake Maggiore. Inside the church is the painting Lo sposalizio di nostro Signore con santa Caterina; in 1748, Cardinal Giuseppe Pozzobonelli attributed it to the workshop of the Procaccini.
Another cultural and historical highlight is Villa Carissimi. Vincenzo Morandi built the building between 1907 and 1909. In Colmegna, the villa is possibly considered the most significant Art Nouveau building in the Luino area.
Trails with different perspectives
Those wishing to explore Colmegna on foot will find two clearly distinct routes. The Grand Tour del Lago Maggiore stage leads from Colmegna along a former road, now used by pedestrians, past the galleries to Maccagno Inferiore. The high route of this stage begins at Lungolago Palazzi di Colmegna and climbs to an altitude of 520 meters, the highest point of the stage.
On the Sentiero Belvedere, the trail initially follows the lakeshore for 100 meters in the direction of Maccagno. It then branches uphill at a narrow point.
Beach, diving and a festival in November
Spiaggia di Colmegna is a public beach. It can be reached via the SS394 at the entrance to Colmegna; a large free parking lot is just a few steps from the shore. For diving, Colmegna in the Verbano area is one of the recommended spots.
At the end of November, the traditional Festa di S. Caterina takes place. A large bonfire is lit on the lakeshore during the festival. When choosing a holiday apartment in Colmegna, you can therefore consider whether the cultural village center, trails by the water or a vacation with beach, lake and local tradition should be the focus of your trip.
