Panoramas and walks

The walk on the Piana di Vegonno leads from the car park near the municipal cemetery to the small church of San Giorgio. From there, the trail begins through meadows and woods.

Astrovia della Valbossa on Lake Varese

The Astrovia della Valbossa combines astronomy and exercise. It consists of ten permanent stations representing the solar system on a scale of 1:2,000,000,000 for the distances between the planets. Information boards are located at each station. The stations are illuminated at night, making a nighttime visit possible. The route is approximately 3 kilometres long and takes about one hour. It runs along the cycle and pedestrian path on Lake Varese and extends from the Azzate/Buguggiate municipal boundary to the municipality of Galliate Lombardo.

For cyclists, the “Art and nature in the Olona Valley” cycling tour offers another distinctive highlight: it is 21.5 kilometres long and rated as moderately difficult. The Darsena can be reached on foot from the cycle path from Varese.

Churches, villas and cultural heritage

The Santuario della Madonnina del Lago was built in the 15th century and restored between the 19th and 20th centuries. Its festival takes place every year on the second Sunday in October. The festival therefore falls in autumn.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio houses a polychrome relief of the Addolorata above its wooden main altar. The oldest part of Villa Bossi Zampolli retains terracotta windows and 15th-century frescoes. The Chiesa di San Rocco dates from approximately the 18th century. Church art, frescoes and the different periods of construction provide several historical points of interest for a culturally focused day of your holiday.

Another notable address is Villa Bossi Tettoni Benizzi Castellani. It is recognised by the Ministry as public cultural heritage. Together with the sacred artworks and the preserved details of Villa Bossi Zampolli, it broadens the perspective on Azzate to include explicitly recognised cultural heritage.

Choosing a holiday apartment in Azzate according to your itinerary

When planning a trip to Azzate, an outing with panoramic views, a walk through meadows and woods, illuminated stations at night, or historic churches and villas can each be incorporated differently into the daily schedule. The different types of experiences make it possible to alternate active and cultural activities without limiting the holiday to a single pursuit.
