The Guardia di Sotto and Guardia di Sopra complexes are typical examples of large Milanese agricultural estates and were once owned by the Visconti family. Their long buildings have a blind portico running parallel to the watercourse. The Cascina Guardia complex extends through a human-shaped landscape on both banks of the Naviglio Grande. Agricultural architecture, the history of historic ownership and the clearly recognisable relationship with the water thus come together in the landscape.

Cascina Guardia can be reached via the Strada Provinciale 59, which runs along the towpath of the Naviglio Grande. Lago Boscaccio, a nature oasis of great ecological interest, is also located near Cascina Guardia. During the wintering period, it is home primarily to numerous waterfowl.
