Brivio combines the Adda river landscape with several sites of cultural and historical interest. The castle, churches and museums stand alongside a natural area of riverbanks, reeds and wet woodlands. The river is present at the castle and also forms the landscape setting of the Palude di Brivio. Cultural history between the castle and churches

A prominent landmark is the remains of the ancient and imposing Castello di Brivio, situated overlooking the Adda River. In the historic centre, the Museo Casa Natale di Cesare Cantù is located in the birthplace of Cesare Cantù, near the Adda River. The museum preserves personal belongings, furnishings and important editions of Cesare Cantù’s extensive scholarly, literary and historical works. Its proximity to the Adda connects the museum with the landscape surrounding the castle.

The Antiquarium is located in the atrium of the Palazzo Comunale. It displays early artefacts, including an altar, amphorae and a faithful reproduction of the Capsella di Brivio. Brivio’s religious history goes back a long way. A document from May 960 mentions the existence of a Christian community in Brivio. The Pieve of Brivio is associated with the Chiesa dei SS. Sisinio, Martirio e Alessandro and is first mentioned in 966. The new Chiesa dei SS. Sisinio, Martirio e Alessandro was completed in 1760. The Chiesa di San Leonardo contains the Cappella della Madonna delle Grazie, with a fresco from the 16th-century tradition that probably originated from the Leonardesque school. The Chiesa di San Leonardo is a FAI cultural heritage site.

Palude di Brivio and trails along the Adda

The Palude di Brivio includes riverbanks with gravel bars and willow stands. The wet areas include reed beds and sedge meadows, as well as bodies of water with water lilies and pond lilies. Wet black alder woodlands complete the natural area. The riverbanks, water and woodland are the main focus for observing nature. The different landscape forms give the Palude its own character within the Adda landscape.

The municipal circular route “Brivio e il suo Fiume” is 3.8 kilometres long. This fixed route length provides a specific reference point when planning a walk. For CAI Route 119, “Lungo l'Adda da Brivio”, a car park is indicated on Via Lungo Adda Monfalcone in Brivio.
