Carimate combines impressive architectural history, literary events and the Carimate Golf Club to create a varied travel destination. If you choose a holiday apartment in Carimate, you will find a range of points of interest to help plan your trip: historic architecture around the castle, regular cultural events, a botanically distinctive golf course and a path through the Serenza Valley.
Church history and Castello di Carimate
The present-day parish church, Chiesa di San Giorgio e dell’Immacolata Concezione, dates from 1752 to 1755. It was built on the ruins of an older church dedicated to San Giorgio, which dates back to the 14th century.
Castello di Carimate is also part of the local history. The Stone Castle Studios operated in Castello di Carimate from 1976 to 1986. Today, Castello di Carimate is used as an event venue. It therefore provides an important cultural point of reference for planning your trip, without implying any particular sightseeing opportunity.
Golf between architecture and plants
The Carimate Golf Club has a history dating back to 1962. That year, the first nine holes were laid out, with the second nine following three years later. The clubhouse was also completed in 1962, with architects Vico Magistretti and Guido Veneziani involved in its design.
The golf course is particularly impressive in the way it runs through a botanical collection comprising ten thousand plants. In addition to the game itself, the course’s planting and landscaping provide a distinct experience.
Torchio, chapel and cultural programme
Opposite Castello di Carimate lies the Torchio complex, which was built at the end of the 19th century. The Torchio was built in the 19th century after the parish church of Carimate. It was later redesigned and became a cultural and commercial centre of Carimate. The Cappella Gentilizia della famiglia Arnaboldi, built in 1876, is also located in this setting.
The Torchio is also associated with two specific event venues and programmes. The literary series “Un castello di libri” takes place in the Piazzetta del Torchio, Piazza Castello 4, Carimate. The “Castelli in aria” festival is held at the Salone e Corte del Torchio at the same address. The Club del Libro di Carimate meets once a month to discuss the selected book and exchange opinions.
A path through the Serenza Valley
Another point of orientation is the restored path that connects Novedrate with Carimate and runs through the Serenza Valley.
