Holiday apartment in Rivoltella: culture and lakeside routes

Rivoltella combines cultural history with lakeside routes and destinations in the surrounding region. Historic buildings and museums give the town a cultural character, while the cycle route and walking path focus attention on movement and the water.

Historic sites between church and former castle

Villa Brunati was built at the end of the 16th century by Monsignor Giacomo Roveglio as a holiday residence on an existing medieval rural building. The Church of San Biagio in Rivoltella dates from the early 15th century.

Parco della Torre includes the tower of the former castle of Rivoltella. The Chiesetta di San Zeno – Antica Pieve di Rivoltella – dates from the 16th century. The chapel contains frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries. Traces from the 16th century are also visible on its bell tower and on parts of the surrounding walls.

Museums covering regional and contemporary-history themes

The Museo XX secolo opened in 2018 and serves the museum preservation as well as the sociocultural and tourist development of the area. Its collection includes objects from the period spanning the First World War to around 1960. The Museo XX secolo also hosts temporary exhibitions every year featuring thematically cohesive material.

There are other cultural destinations in the vicinity of Rivoltella: the Museo Civico Archeologico “Giovanni Rambotti” is a museum, as is the Museo della Battaglia di Solferino e San Martino. The Fondazione Ugo da Como is also a museum. The Castello Scaligero, a castle, is located in the same area.

The Giardini Marinai d'Italia, a garden, is located in the vicinity of Rivoltella. Parco Pastore, a park, is also located in the area around Rivoltella. In the wider surrounding region lies Parco Natura Viva, a zoo.

Cycling and walking by the lake

The “Lungolago - Desenzano e Rivoltella” cycle route is 8 km long and runs along the lakeshore from the boundary area with Lonato to the boundary area with Sirmione. Another waterfront route from Desenzano to Sirmione passes through Rivoltella and runs there along Viale Francesco Agello.

A distinctive trace of Lugana's history

The local history of wine and commerce also has an unusual facet. At the end of the 19th century, industrialists from Champagne attempted to establish a winery in Rivoltella for Lugana sparkling wine produced using the traditional method, modelled on Champagne.
