Apartment in Gardone Riviera: Culture between Lake and Mountains
Apartment in Gardone Riviera: Lake, Mountains and Culture
Gardone Riviera stretches from Lake Garda to the surrounding mountains.
The landscape therefore extends from the water to the higher areas. The circular route “Tra i borghi e i colli di Gardone Riviera” runs through the hills and villages. There are also historical collections, villas, religious art and a botanical garden with a history of its own.
Historical Collections and Special Places
The Prioria, Gabriele D’Annunzio’s residence, houses around 10,000 objects and 33,000 books.
The Museo D’Annunzio Eroe displays war relics, documents, original evidence and other memorabilia relating to Gabriele D’Annunzio’s heroic exploits. The Museo D’Annunzio Eroe is accessible via entrances A and C of the Vittoriale.
Different forms of historical memory therefore stand side by side in Gardone Riviera: a residence with objects and books, and a museum with war relics, documents and other memorabilia.
Hills, Villages and a Historical Circular Route
The “Tra i borghi e i colli di Gardone Riviera” circular route connects history, art and nature in the hills and villages of Gardone Riviera. Its themes are therefore found not only in individual buildings but also in the landscape along the route.
In Morgnaga, the circular route leads to the 15th-century Church of Sant’Antonio Abate. Here, a section through the villages connects the route with a specific historical building.
Villa Alba and Religious Art
Villa Alba is located in the centre of Gardone Riviera. The building dates from the early 20th century and was originally called Villa Ruhland.
Villa Alba was designed in the Neoclassical style and features colonnades, a loggia supported by caryatids, a pediment decorated with bas-reliefs and a monumental grand staircase. At the beginning of the 20th century, the villa was designed by the German architect Schaefer as an imitation of buildings on the Athenian Acropolis.
The Museo Il Divino Infante displays splendid showcases and boxes that were used to transport and present the “Divino Infante” during processions. The Museo Il Divino Infante also includes a Neapolitan nativity scene.
Botanical Diversity and Art in the Garden
The Heller Garden encompasses more than 3,000 plant species and combines botanical beauty with human art. Alongside the historic buildings and museums, there is therefore a garden where plant diversity and art come together.
The garden history of Gardone Riviera can be traced back to 1903. That year, Hruska began transforming a 10,000-square-metre vineyard in Gardone Riviera on Lake Garda into a lush botanical garden.
