Historic Buildings, Materials and Preserved Courtyards in the Town Centre
Various architectural forms and materials have been preserved in the historic centre of Bonate Sopra. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta has been documented in Bonate Sopra since the 9th century. Other buildings feature herringbone masonry made of river pebbles, reinforced with sandstone blocks. The Casaforte Prezzati is a fortified 14th-century house with loopholes. Its portal is made of Mapello stone. Palazzo Maggioni is a former Baroque monastery from the 17th century. Numerous courtyards have also been preserved. Their structure recalls the original storage of „stami“, agricultural tools or a wine press. The preserved courtyard structures also include threshing floors as well as large areas for processing and storing wine. For those interested in culture, the herringbone masonry, Casaforte Prezzati, Palazzo Maggioni and the preserved courtyards are among Bonate Sopra’s distinctive local features.
