Holiday apartment in Marina Velca: Coast, golf and Mediterranean landscape
Marina Velca combines coast, golf and distinctive architecture to create a destination with diverse facets. The coast features sandy beaches; Marina Velca Pian di Spille is home to a 9-hole golf course, and the Marina Velca residential complex on Via dei Tarquiniensi has a square layout with an open corner.
Sandy beaches and Mediterranean coast
Marina Velca has sandy beaches along the coast. The coastal area of Tarquinia, to which these beaches belong, is characterised by fine, dark sand of volcanic origin. Typical Mediterranean maquis grows along the coast, including strawberry trees, myrtle, rosemary, juniper, oleasters, broom, oleander, oaks, holm oaks and pines. The dark sand defines the beach there, while the maquis grows along the coast of Tarquinia. For those interested in nature, fine, dark sand and Mediterranean maquis therefore stand side by side as two specific features of the coast.
Golf with its own history
Marina Velca Pian di Spille is home to a 9-hole golf course with a par of 35 and double tees. The Marina Velka Golf Club course was created in the late 1960s based on a design by Rodolfo Russo as a 9-hole par-3 course with double tees. It was redesigned by Ugo Grappasonni in the 1980s. The original design and the later redesign therefore date from different decades. One hole of the Marina Velka Golf Club was laid out near ancient Etruscan tombs that were discovered there by chance. The third hole of the Marina Velca Pian di Spille golf course is described as one of the most difficult and spectacular holes on the course. Golf enthusiasts can take the stated nine holes and par 35 into account when planning their day.
The Marina Velca residential complex
The Marina Velca residential complex on Via dei Tarquiniensi was built in 1972–1973 as public housing according to plans by Piero Sartogo. The residential complex is arranged around an inner courtyard. The units are located along four sides of a square, while one corner remains open. The four sides of the square do not completely enclose the inner courtyard because one corner remains open. The open corner also creates the asymmetrical geometry of the square layout. The other three corners are structured by 45-degree cuts extending over the entire height of the building. These cuts enable a physical and visual connection to the inner courtyard. The 45-degree cuts are not limited to a single part of the building but extend over its entire height. The open corner interrupts the otherwise enclosed course of the layout.
