Aprilia combines the history of a founding town with squares, festivals, art and wine. Anyone planning a trip with varied interests will find several points of interest here: historic buildings, a market with a distinctive past, cultural events, and dates centred around wine and regional traditions. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you would like to focus your days primarily on culture, festivals or culinary discoveries.

Churches, Squares and a Market with History

The central Church of San Michele Arcangelo and Santa Maria Goretti was one of the few buildings already in existence when Aprilia was inaugurated on 29 October 1937. After being destroyed by bombing during the Second World War, it was rebuilt in the post-war period. The church can be accessed from Piazza Roma and Via dei Lauri. It therefore offers a concrete introduction to the town’s history without requiring you to limit yourself to a purely chronological tour.

Another focal point is the new Piazza delle Erbe, which was inaugurated on 25 April 2021. It can be accessed from Piazza Roma, Via Rossetti and Via dei Garofani and was created as a space for cultural activities and events involving the founding towns. The Mercatino delle Erbe is now located on the site of the former Piazza delle Erbe of the founding town of Aprilia. The original market was shaped like a cloister: a portico covered by groin vaults and supported by pillars surrounded a square courtyard on all four sides, with a round travertine fountain in the centre.

The recently renovated Mercatino delle Erbe is intended to accommodate not only the sale of products but also dining services and cultural activities. For your trip planning, this place can therefore be combined with different ideas for the day: you can explore the history of the market, discover products or focus on cultural offerings, provided that they take place during your travel dates.

Art and Historic Memorial Sites

The sculpture “Evoluzione” was installed on the fountain in Piazza Roma on 29 October 1997. It was the artist Umberto Mastroianni’s final work before his death on 25 February 1998. The work supplements the historical perspective with a distinctly later artistic reference and is therefore suitable as a separate point of interest during your exploration of Aprilia.

The Garibaldi family mausoleum is located on the Carano Garibaldi estate. Among others, Menotti, the firstborn son of Giuseppe Garibaldi, is buried there. The estate also includes a historic cemetery dating from the Napoleonic period. These two sites appeal to travellers interested in family history, political history and different eras represented in one place.

Festivals, Wine and Cultural Events

The San Michele Arcangelo festival takes place on 29 September and includes musical, cultural and religious events. It concludes with a traditional fireworks display. At the end of October, Aprilia hosts the Festa dell’Uva e del Vino. The Aprilia Film Festival is held in October and combines music, dance, painting, photography, handicrafts and poetry. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment for a specific period can use these dates as a guide for planning their own trip without losing sight of the other cultural offerings.

Wine is also part of the local character. Aprilia DOC includes white wine, red wine, rosé wine and Merlot. The Festa del Vino is presented as an enogastronomic event centred around grapes and wine. A historical re-enactment of Pope Innocent XII’s visit concludes with a papal banquet, which can be attended by prior reservation. The range therefore extends from artistic events to offerings where history and shared dining come together.
